ECO4 Installers Leaving Dust? Book the Deep Clean

ECO4 closes 31 December 2026, and Midlands retrofits are leaving dust behind. Here's why every insulation job needs a proper deep clean after.

Why retrofit dust isn't like ordinary building dust

Insulation materials, in particular, aren't something you want lingering in a home's air or settling into soft furnishings. Mineral wool and fibreglass fibres are irritating to skin, eyes and airways if they're not properly cleaned up, and they have a way of finding their way well beyond the loft hatch — into carpets, onto surfaces, into HVAC returns if a property has them. A standard end-of-tenancy hoover-round doesn't reliably shift this kind of fine, fibrous dust. It needs a proper deep clean, done with the right equipment, specifically because of what the material is.

What a post-retrofit deep clean actually covers

  • High-filtration vacuuming of carpets and soft furnishings to lift fine insulation fibres, not just surface dust
  • Full wipe-down of hard surfaces, skirting boards and window sills where plaster and masonry dust settles
  • Loft hatch and immediate surrounding area, where the bulk of insulation fibre fallout tends to concentrate
  • Stairwells and hallways used as the installer's access route, which take the heaviest foot-traffic residue
  • A final air-quality-conscious pass with damp methods rather than dry sweeping, to avoid resettling fine dust

A single homeowner booking one ECO4 job can plan around the mess in their own time. A landlord or letting agent coordinating retrofit work across a portfolio of properties, on a tenanted-turnover schedule, doesn't have that luxury — the property needs to be genuinely clean and ready before the next viewing or the returning tenant, not just visibly tidy. Booking the deep clean as a fixed step in the retrofit process, rather than an afterthought once someone complains, keeps that schedule intact.

Booking around your installer's schedule

With installer diaries filling fast ahead of the December deadline, we're already coordinating clean-up visits to follow straight on from confirmed ECO4 installation dates across the Midlands. If you've got retrofit work booked, or you're managing several properties going through it this autumn, it's worth getting the clean-up slot locked in alongside the installation date, not after.
